Fight fans who were disappointed when Chris Weidman and Eryk Anders' middleweight bout was pulled from UFC 309, won't have to wait long to see it happen.
The promotion announced on Wednesday that the fight had been rescheduled for UFC 310 (Dec. 7) in Las Vegas, this time at a catchweight of 195 pounds.
The pair were supposed to face off last week in New York's Madison Square Garden as part of the preliminary card but Anders pulled out at the last minute due to an unspecified illness.
In a social media post shortly after news broke, Weidman said he learned that Anders was sick as he was about to walk into the arena and that he was "completely devastated."
"I felt so good for this fight, so ready. My head is spinning that this is happening," he said. "Just felt so good and I was excited to put on a show at Madison Square Garden. I am so gutted."
Weidman, 40, is an MMA veteran of over nearly two decades and a former middleweight champion. Since losing his belt to Luke Rockhold in 2015, however, "The All-American" has lost seven of his last 10 contests. He recently snapped a three-fight skid in March, picking up a decision win over Bruno Silva and improving his record to 16-7-0 (12-7-0 in UFC).
Meanwhile, Anders enters the fight looking to pick up some momentum. His last UFC bout was a decision win over Jamie Pickett in March but "Ya Boi" hasn't won back-to-back contests under the banner since 2019. He enters the matchup with a record of 16-8-0 (8-8-0 in UFC).
UFC 310 is headlined by flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja taking on UFC debutant Kai Asakura in a title fight at T-Mobile Arena.
